You belong here.
If you have a disability, long term health condition, mental health need, or learning difficulty, you can train with us and thrive. We will work with you to remove barriers. You will still work to the Teachers’ Standards.
Our promise to you:
- We take disclosures seriously and handle them with care.
- We make reasonable adjustments so you can access training fairly.
- We focus on removing barriers to learning and practice, not lowering expectations.
- We review support regularly so it stays useful as training demands change.
What We Mean by Disability
Disability can include physical or medical needs, mental health needs, and learning difficulties such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and dyspraxia. We align our approach with the Equality Act 2010.
Telling Us What You Need

How Support Works in Practice
1. We understand your needs: We talk with you about the impact on:
- Centre based training
- School based training
- Assessment and workload
We may suggest specialist input, with your agreement, such as Occupational Health.
2. We agree reasonable adjustments: For learning difficulties, we use an Individual Trainee Support Plan (ITSP). This sets out:
- Your needs, described clearly and practically
- The barriers you face in training
- The adjustments we will put in place
- Who will do what, and by when
- How we will check impact and review
3. We put adjustments in place and review them: We check in with you and your support team to see what is working. We can refine or remove adjustments if they are no longer needed, with your agreement.
Support for Physical and Medical Needs
If you have a physical or medical condition that affects safety or access, we may use a risk assessment to help manage this. It will focus on:
- Your access to the programme
- Managing risk in school and training venues
- Clear actions that reduce risk for you and others
We will write this with you. We will only share it with your permission, and only with people who need it to support your safety and access.
Wellbeing and Mental Health Support
Training can feel demanding at points. If stress is affecting your wellbeing and training, we can use a Stress Risk Assessment. This is co-produced with you and kept confidential within the agreed group.
Confidentiality and Data Protection
We only share information on a need to know basis.
We store information securely.
We involve you in decisions about information sharing wherever possible.
