Develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a difference

The Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship has been designed to develop highly skilled, reflective and inclusive practitioners who can make a lasting impact on children's learning and wellbeing.

  • Outstanding special school provision
  • A Teaching School Hub
  • An established teacher training programme
  • Extensive experience supporting pupils with SEND

Through a carefully sequenced programme of study, apprentices will develop the professional knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to support high-quality teaching and improve outcomes for all learners.

Learn From Inclusion Specialists

Our apprenticeship has been designed around the principle that every child deserves to succeed. Apprentices develop a deep understanding of SEND, adaptive practice and learner development, enabling them to confidently support pupils with a wide range of needs within mainstream and specialist settings.

Drawing on expertise from our outstanding special schools and experienced practitioners, apprentices learn how to:

  • Support pupils with additional needs effectively
  • Adapt learning to remove barriers to success
  • Promote independence and resilience
  • Use evidence-informed approaches to support progress
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, families and wider professionals

At Sea View Trust, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.

Over 18 months, apprentices develop expertise across key aspects of the Teaching Assistant role, through the completion of the following modules:

1. Professional Role and Safeguarding.  Understanding professional responsibilities, safeguarding, inclusion, school culture and effective working practices.

2. Relationships and Behaviour Management.  Building positive relationships and understanding behaviour as communication.  approaches.

3. Understanding Learners. Exploring child development, executive function, theories of learning, SEND and communication.

4. Supporting Positive Learning Behaviour. Exploring motivation, resilience and learning behaviours.

5. Curriculum Delivery and Learning. Supporting high quality teaching through modelling, questions and small group teaching, with a focus on Maths, English, Phonics and Early Reading.

6. Assessment and Feedback. Using assessment information and feedback effectively to support pupil progress.

7. Adaptive Practice and SEND. Understanding scaffolding, interventions, technology, access arrangements and inclusive approaches to learning.

8. Professional Collaboration. Working effectively as part of a professional system with teachers, leaders, families and external agencies to secure the best outcomes for pupils.

The programme culminates in preparation for End Point Assessment, ensuring apprentices are fully ready to demonstrate occupational competence.

Inclusion woven throughout

Rather than just studying SEND as a standalone module, inclusive practice is embedded throughout the entire programme.

Apprentices learn how to:

  • Understand and respond to individual learner needs
  • Support communication and language development
  • Develop positive learning behaviours
  • Adapt classroom practice
  • Deliver effective interventions
  • Promote independence and achievement for every child

This ensures apprentices become Teaching Assistants who are equipped to support increasingly diverse classrooms with confidence and skill.

Our curriculum is informed by current research and educational best practice.

Apprentices engage with topics such as:

  • Child development
  • Executive function
  • Learning theories
  • Behaviour as communication
  • Motivation and resilience
  • Assessment for learning
  • Adaptive teaching

This enables apprentices to understand not only what works, but why it works.

Apprentices immediately apply their learning in their school setting.

Throughout the programme they complete practical activities including:

  • Professional reflections
  • Behaviour support reviews
  • Learner case studies
  • Small-group teaching observations
  • Assessment portfolios
  • Intervention impact studies

This ensures learning is directly linked to improved practice and pupil outcomes.
